The Ghana Project is a ministry of Living Word. After feeling a call from God to dive into relationship with the people of northern Ghana, Pastor Michael McIntyre organized Living Word's first exploratory team to go find out exactly what was God's call in Ghana in October of 2010. After an eye-opening first visit, the Living Word congregation jumped right into action in the very first Ghana Christmas Miracle Offering where $190,000 was given to change lives in Ghana. Immediately, borehole water wells were being drilled, chapels built, and schools constructed.
Poverty rates in the north are two to three times the national average, and chronic food shortages and lack of water remains a critical challenge there. Although Ghana is a very small country, over 55,000 children five years old and younger die every year because they don’t have enough water to drink or because the water they have is contaminated with deadly parasites. In addition, short fallow seasons has led to soil erosion and land degradation, which pose a long-term threat to subsistence farmers' livelihoods. With very limited employment options available, many rural young men and women leave their villages for urban centers of the south depriving the north of many of the most gifted young people.
The Ghana Project is dedicated to establishing and maintaining long-lasting relationships with the people of northern Ghana to bring clean and safe water, medical supplies, education, agricultural needs, and spiritual needs while working together to spread the love of Jesus Christ.
Each year, the people of Living Word and friends of Living Word show their support of what God is doing in Ghana by taking what they would normally spend on their families for Christmas, and set aside half of that amount to give to Ghana. At our Christmas Eve services, we take up a special collection so that people can collectively come forward and give their gift to Jesus. In the three years that we've done this, Living Word and its friends have given more than $674,838.70, and 100% of that amount goes to projects and resources for the people of Ghana.

See just how beautiful Ghana is and how awesome all the people we have met have been.
Ghana is a small country in western Africa, and like many of its neighbors, suffering from extreme poverty. Ghana ranks 135 out of 187 countries on the United Nations Development Program's 2011 Human Development Index – which is a comparative measure of life expectancy, literacy, education and standards of living for countries worldwide. Extreme poverty remains widespread in the dry sub-saharan region that covers roughly two thirds of Ghana's northern territory. Unlike the south, where there are two growing seasons, the northern plains are drought-prone and present relatively few economic opportunities.
God is doing such great things in northern Ghana through the Ghana Project, and you can be a part of that movement of change with a simple gift.
Through the incredible generosity of people like you and the people of Living Word through the Ghana Christmas Miracle Offering, so much has already been done to change REAL lives. We've seen such an incredible difference made in such a short amount of time, and this couldn't be done without you.
